Better than most humidifiers
PostedSeptember 7, 2011
I've had 1/2-dozen humidifiers in my lifetime. Upon moving to a dry climate with asthma/allergies, I needed a heavy duty one to run 24/7. I was attracted to the promise that this model was mold/mildew inhibiting. I must admit, it's better than most I've purchased, certainly quieter if that's a consideration for anyone. It's also a hundred dollars more than most I've purchased. The first unit broke in 6-wks, but Gaiam was excellent in offering a replacement at no extra charge with little hassle. I like it, there is no filter which must be cleaned each week (a small one is on the side, but it seems to just stay clean), but, the plastic parts do smell a bit moldy after a few weeks & I must soak them in vinegar & water to reduce the smell. The included small brush isn't enough to properly clean the scales & moldy smell from the parts. All in all, I like it, it works well, but something else is needed to make it not smell moldy after a week of filling the water tank. No suggestions are given in the instructions. Not sure what to do, but the recent vinegar soak of parts does improve the quality of the humidifier. BTW, it does work well in a 900sf apt & I no longer suffer dry climate woes... bloody nose, scaly skin, dry eyes. I like it & would recommend it to others despite the higher cost.

Nice material but fit is awful
PostedJune 26, 2011
I read the other reviews & purchased a Medium size, based on what others said about fit being true to size. I am 5'7" & weigh 125-lbs. The top fits, but is snug across the chest, short to the waist & the oddly placed, too few buttonholes make it an uncomfortable fit so I constantly tug at the front. After 2 wearings, I cut up the top for rags. The bottoms are HUGE. I can't imagine how anyone fits into these. The Mediums are made for an extraordinarily tall person with a huge hip region. They hang off my hips & I had to cut about 7" from the legs to get them to ankle length & I have long legs! For the $19 price, it would have been more trouble to return them. Nice material & soft, yes, but the fit is the worst I've seen on PJs.

Does the ball need to be reactivated in direct sunlight?

I thought I'd read somewhere that these balls need to be reactivated weekly by placing them in direct sunlight for at least a few hours. Now I can't find these instructions in the enclosed directions or on the product's website. Can you help, please? Thank you!

Noise level when in use?

Hello, I live in an apt bldg with neighbors underneath me. Although floors are carpeted, it's natural that some noise will be heard downstairs, but, I don't want to rattle their nerves. How much noise does this unit make when in use? Thank you!

The "empty" light keeps coming on even though the tank is not empty. Any ideas?

That has happened to me when the water tank wasn't set properly into the unit. I've had to jiggle it into place a few times. Also, if I screwed on the water tank cap too tightly, I've had that happen a few times. I must also say, I'm on my 2nd unit. The 1st broke in 6-wks. Gaiam replaced it quickly with no issue. Perhaps you have a faulty unit? If my suggestions don't help, contact them for a replacement asap. At this price, it is a nice unit, works well & is quiet, but you need a functional unit. Good luck!

Does the unit shut off automatically when empty?

I saw the specifications for a low water level indicator, but does the humidifier shut off automatically if it runs out of water completely?

My humidifier does shut off completely if the water tank runs dry. A red light appears next to the No Water Indicator icon, rather than the normal blue light. I think it's a nice feature. No need to run the electricity if the unit isn't full & doing its job. I like the unit & it's my 6th or so humidifier (all far less expensive). Hope you will, too. I think it's worth the price.
